Q: What is a regular work day like for you?

A: My day starts with teaching a beginning programming class, then depending on the day I teach AP Computer Science, Cyber Security or a CS Capstone Course.

Q: What do you love most about your career/major?

A: I really like programming and problem solving and teaching those skills to others.

Q: When did you become inspired to partake in tech? What was your inspiration?

A: I took CS classes in high school and really enjoyed the ability to create programs.

Q: What prepared you the best for your job/major today?

A: I think my classes in high school and college along with the project that I engaged in on my own helped prepare me.

Q: What is the biggest obstacle you’ve been faced with, and how are/did you overcoming/overcome it?

A: The job you want may not always exist, the biggest challenge is to determine what you want to do then to work to make that be your job. I have kept evolving my position to better suit my strengths and what I like to do. It continues to evolve but I am always working to make my job and the experience of my students better.

Q: What non-tech skill do you find most helpful/important that’s for your career?

A: So much of teaching, and life in general, is being able to get along with people. If you can get along and communicate clearly with people you have a much easier time with anything else that comes along.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

A: I would like to be in CS education in some way. Right now I’d like to be working at a higher level to get CS into not every high school but also into middle and elementary schools.

Q: What’s your favorite coding language?

A: Python

Q: What are some of your interests outside tech?

A: I like biking and urban planning.

Q: What are your plans for future projects?

A: Next year will be the first for our CS capstone class, I am excited to see this get off the ground and for the projects students will create.

Q: What advice would you give a young person interested in tech now?

A: Find a project that interests you, that you are excited about, and that you are willing to work at despite failure or obstacles.
